It was a hot, sunny afternoon, and [Milo](TDB7V5GS)’s mom brought out a big surprise—a giant, juicy watermelon for him and his two sisters!
They sat on the porch, laughing and slurping the sweet red fruit. [Milo](TDB7V5GS) bit into a slice and— “Ow!” He found a hard black seed hiding in the middle.
“Can I keep this?” he asked, holding it up. “Sure,” Mom smiled. “Maybe you’ll grow your own one day.”
[Milo](TDB7V5GS)’s eyes sparkled with an idea. “I WILL grow my own!” He ran to the garden, dug a little hole, and gently planted the seed.
The next morning, [Milo](TDB7V5GS) sprinted outside. But… nothing. No sprout. Just plain dirt.
“Why isn’t it growing?” he sighed. [Grandpa](W3HQKTBR) chuckled from his chair. “Good things take time, [Milo](TDB7V5GS). You’ve got to be patient and care for it.”
So [Milo](TDB7V5GS) waited. He watered the soil. He told it stories. He even sang it lullabies.
One morning— POP! A tiny green sprout peeked out of the ground!
The sprout grew bigger. It stretched into vines, grew wide leaves, and bloomed little yellow flowers.
And then— A little green ball appeared! [Milo](TDB7V5GS) gasped. “My melon!”
He waited as it grew fatter and rounder and heavier. Until one sunny morning, [Grandpa](W3HQKTBR) said, “I think it’s ready.”
[Milo](TDB7V5GS) picked the biggest melon and sliced it open. SLURP! It was red, juicy, and sweeter than anything he’d ever tasted.
